Matthew is a PADI Course Director (check out his location in the greatest classroom in the world, over at Cozumel IDC) with a passion for teaching and a very wide variety of interests. He started diving on a whim in 1999, when he found himself on a trip to a tropical destination. Having never considered the possibility of scuba, but being offered the opportunity to participate in a discover scuba program, Matthew jumped at the chance. It was a life-altering experience.
As the years passed, and the dive trips got longer, the chance to become a PADI Divemaster at a caribbean dive resort presented itself. Building on that opportunity and experience, Matthew worked his way through the PADI instructor system until he became a Course Director; he now heads up Cozumel IDC, which runs programs from Divemaster to IDC Staff Instructor.
In addition to his IDC duties, Matthew is the Head of Training at Blue Angel Scuba School, and is dedicated to ensuring that all our students have the best experience possible. He is responsible for scheduling, developing our programs and procedures, standards adherence and of course, instruction! In addition to PADI core diving programs he teaches a number of specialty courses, and enjoys mentoring divers through Divemaster and Assistant Instructor programs as well.
Aside from teaching recreational scuba courses, Matthew enjoys teaching Emergency First Response programs up to Instructor Level. Giving divers and non-divers alike the skills to act in case of an emergency is very rewarding. And it’s not just all about being an instructor. Part of the fun for Matthew is the continuing journey as a student and fun diver. Most recently, that has resulted in Matthew’s interest in technical diving.
